Our Chief Information Officer (CIO) is the most senior professional in our organization on a technological level, heading the field of information systems and databases.

Information systems have gained momentum in the past decade, as business processes that were previously physical have shifted to the internet and computerized systems, calling for strong, sophisticated and secure systems.

The internet and IT revolution has positioned the CIO as a key factor in management, responsible for designing the company’s technological strategy and thus leading the business activity. IT management is not a technical position, but rather a managerial one, aiming to translate business needs into technical action. The CIO is responsible for providing computing solutions for organizational processes, such as: purchasing, marketing, HR, quality assurance and more, through the development, implementation and integration of the management information systems.

In addition, the CIO is responsible for managing all IT employees in line with management demands for achieving predefined schedule and budget objectives.

Being a lateral position, the CIO must have a strong organizational-procedural understanding and the ability to communicate with all elements of the organization. To fill this position, the CIO’s training must combine technology and management in order for the CIO to serve as an organizational bridge between the worlds of technology and business.

Creative thinking, business vision

The role of CIO is a creative position entailing a deep organizational and procedural understanding, currently at the forefront of leveraging the organization in business terms. That is why a CIO must be familiar with the organization’s business arena, its competitors and its sales and marketing strategy in order to offer technological solutions in support of the business strategy and contribute to its economic growth. Creative thinking involves creating a match between the technical and business infrastructures toward finding innovative solutions to save resources, reduce timetables and generate more revenues at lower expenses.

Management Capability

The role of CIO requires strong communication skills as it is a lateral position that requires interfacing with multiple factors within and outside of the organization. Leadership, motivation and operational skills are very important, especially when managing an IT team or department as it requires working with various factors ranging from suppliers through colleagues to customers in the worlds of finance, HR and business toward integrating their varying demands to create a product that will optimally serve everyone. A CIO is often required to negotiate, conduct discussions, manage suppliers, understand in marketing and financial statements, etc. and is often required to manage under pressure within a specified budget.

High Service Awareness

As the CIO works with various factors and is responsible for multiple factors intended to provide services to company employees or customers, the CIO must have a strong service awareness, be attentive to customer and employee needs, able to provide clear instructions on using the various systems to ensure their efficiency and accessibility, even for those without an IT management background.
